I’m made of metal. My circuits gleam. I am perpetual. I keep the country clean.

It was 2000 when Rob Halford released his solo album Resurrection. In the song Cyberworld he pretty much nailed the world we're living in now. He was a fan of the book 1984 and that inspired the lyrics for Judas Priest's 1982 song Electric Eye. Cyberworld grew on that idea and eerily predicted the current surveillance technology industry that is taking over much of our world today.

Your information's what I steal
I scan you till you are unreal
Transmit your power into me

Cyberworld, cyberworld
I'll steal your mind
Cyberworld, cyberworld
For all mankind, yeah, yeah

You're dying in my cyber world

and now we're stepping into the world of "Artificial Intelligence" which really should be called "Simulated Intelligence". It is not intelligence. It cannot think. It can only simulate thought through algorithms. Yet we're going to hand over our thoughts to it. Let it do our work. Let it write our books. Let it create our art. Let ourselves, our minds wither into atrophy.

I've heard it said that our phones are amazing. We can hold our cognitive abilities in our pockets. We can use our phones to think about the little things, thus freeing up our minds to work on the deeper things. Only that's not the way our brains work. They are like muscles. If you want them to grow, you have to pump iron. If you want to have large thoughts, you need to work on the small ones. Use it or lose it. We are losing our minds.

It's a brave new fucking world

Haha, I'm doing the import. Why? Because I'm bored and I feel like doing stuff on the computer.

Well really, I was reading up on some of my old entries and getting all emotional. Also they're not as horrible as I remember them being. I always assume I write the most horrible entries. It's kind of neat going back and remembering stuff. It wouldn't be the end of the world if I lost all of those entries, but it would also be a nice thing to have around to look back on.

The next big question... to cross post or not to cross post? As much as its tempting to dig in my heels and be like, "I'm a LiveJournal user for life!" I do also know how to look at reality and what LiveJounal is becoming. I mean one of my LJ friends made a good point that just because I don't agree with the rules the Russian government is putting on the site, I shouldn't hate on the Russian people that own on the actual site just because they have to work within those constraints... but really they made the choice to move the servers there. Also, for me personally I don't enjoy the increase in ads. Luckily I'm still ad free when I use my laptop, but on my phone, and other devices, they're all over the place. It feels like the site is going way more commercial. I kind of always liked how the place was so, not commercial. This place seems more like that.

Hello. It would be silly for me not to have something here in case LiveJournal becomes unusable.

...or perhaps bans me. I kind of want to see if I could get banned there by making public political posts.

An Evening in Ballard

Always, always remember to recycle your hipsters when you're done with them for the night.
Remember to Recycle on 365 Project

Also I came across a proper bookstore with a kitty. There ought to be a law requiring all used bookstores to have kitties... above the kitty is [livejournal.com profile] tediousandbrief's "favorite" book.

How The Fuck Do You Write a Poem?

I don't remember anything I learned about poetry.
My google searches go too deep into poetic philosophy.
I guess there are rules somewhere that I just don't see.
Maybe just write some lines and make them rhyme... uh tree.

Some poems I see give you a space after four lines or so.
Then you can change your rhyme and give a new sound a go.
I could be wrong, I just made that up, I don't know.
I wonder if anyone can tell I'm really not a pro?

Then I get weird and reference something like coffee foam.
You're probably wondering where this part could be goin'
It's where I ask the question that really hits home...
How the mother living fuck do you write a god damned poem?

I trimmed down my friends list. I wasn't upset or annoyed with anyone, if I cut you it was because I found myself skimming over your entries rather than reading them.

Likewise friends. I've added several new people the past few years, if you feel like we haven't clicked, don't feel bad about dropping me.

...if we have clicked, don't drop me or I'll hate your forever. HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME??? Just kidding.

This week my favorite band is Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats. I saw a comment on youtube describing them like this: It's like Black Sabbath fucked The Beatles and had an illegitimate child. That really describes them exactly. I've already listened to their album Blood Lust twice in as many days. I'm really digging it.

Watching their music videos is a whole other experience. You know that feeling you get after binge watching documentaries on serial killers to the point where you feel like mind is permanently warped? That's kind of what watching one of their music videos is like. Here's one NSFW or much anything else...really. If you're feeling even slightly emotionally fragile don't watch this.

If You Know Where I Come From, Just Call Me Crank...

The band that's been catching my ear the past few weeks is Baroness from Savannah, Georgia. To me they sound like a heavy metal mix of The Cure and Catherine Wheel. Especially this track Shock Me:

It totally makes me think of my teens when I would sit in my room listening to Catherine Wheel.

Here's another fun track:

I decided to go out into the rain for a while today. I saw a few rainbow. Looks like it's going to stay wet for a few days at least. Maybe tomorrow will be the day I stay in and make cinnamon rolls.

Long Walk

We did end up going to Discovery Park, and then some. I took a million pictures. Nature shots, graffiti, man made stuff, urban scenes.

Here is one in the air still wrapped up.

I love the clouds in the mountians

Discovery Park was a military base, part of it still is, but there are several abandon houses and buildings in the main park area...maybe ghosts?

Playing in the dead grass.

The stream lead us to a very clear pond.

We made our way all the way through the park to the north parking area which is pretty much never used. The place looks like it's been abandon for a long time. It has a cool eerie feel to it. I found this old brick bench/planter there.

Then as you leave the park you can take a road to the northern most point of Magnolia

But rather than taking that road we walked down to the Locks.

You like how I can go to the Locks and not actually take any picture of the locks? Personally my favorite part of that place is under the railroad bridge which is where most of those pictures were taken. After we left the Locks, we took the rail road tracks rather than the street into Ballard. They go behind all the art/work lofts. There's always some sort of craziness going on back there. I told my child not to go there alone, but it was an interesting walk together.

Eventually we made it to Market street

and then walked to 15th Avenue

We'd been going for a lot of miles by this point, so we took the D-line bus back across the Ballard Bridge into our neighborhood. Now all we had to do was go part way up the hill.

Before the hill is the railroad bridge.

That was a lot of walking, but I'm surprisingly not tired from it all. I had on the right shoes, with two pairs of socks, and it worked great.

Chinatown

Yesterday my daughter and I met up with my mother and spent the afternoon in the International District (Chinatown). It was kind of a dark day, so I tried using and ISO setting of 400 so I didn't have to use too long of a shutter speed.

I took some pictures in the bus tunnel, and was talked to by a security guard. He just gave me a friendly reminder not to use my flash...which I wasn't. Seems like security levels are a bit higher this week. Cool tunnel.

Here's a few shot from outside the Asian grocery store.

Here's a familiar scene from [livejournal.com profile] storm777's journal...

Some more pictures as we walked north through Pioneer Square. I put a few alley shots in a different post from this walk.

I think this is a wolf...maybe a bear?

Alleys...

[livejournal.com profile] spiral_meter requested I do pictures of alleys in black and white. It's interesting that he made that request. Some of you may remember that in March of 2014 I did a whole month of nothing but pictures from my back alley. It was an exercise in trying to look closer on what was around me rather than looking further out to find something interesting. You can see that month of images here: http://365project.org/stephomy/365/2014-03

For [livejournal.com profile] spiral_meter's request I decided to do something a bit more urban and took a few pictures near Pioneer Square.

Last year I went to see my high school friend's band Eldridge Gravy & the Court Supreme the Tractor Tavern. Their opening act was the Chaotic Noise Marching Band. I wanted to share a video of them after I saw them, but there wasn't any good ones out there, but I just checked and more seem to have been posted. So here is 45 minutes of Chaotic Noise, I hope you like it. also imagine how loud this was in a small venue such at the Tractor. It was pretty amazing:

Requests?

Looking back on a post I made last year I remembered that I would sometimes come to you guys for photography themes. So I am officially taking requests. What do YOU want me to take a picture of. It can be a general theme or a certain thing or place. Maybe a style or technique I should try out. You make a request, and I'll do my best to make a picture especially for you.
