Haha, I'm doing the import. Why? Because I'm bored and I feel like doing stuff on the computer.

Well really, I was reading up on some of my old entries and getting all emotional. Also they're not as horrible as I remember them being. I always assume I write the most horrible entries. It's kind of neat going back and remembering stuff. It wouldn't be the end of the world if I lost all of those entries, but it would also be a nice thing to have around to look back on.

The next big question... to cross post or not to cross post? As much as its tempting to dig in my heels and be like, "I'm a LiveJournal user for life!" I do also know how to look at reality and what LiveJounal is becoming. I mean one of my LJ friends made a good point that just because I don't agree with the rules the Russian government is putting on the site, I shouldn't hate on the Russian people that own on the actual site just because they have to work within those constraints... but really they made the choice to move the servers there. Also, for me personally I don't enjoy the increase in ads. Luckily I'm still ad free when I use my laptop, but on my phone, and other devices, they're all over the place. It feels like the site is going way more commercial. I kind of always liked how the place was so, not commercial. This place seems more like that.

I like the lack of commercialism here too.

Just discovered you can't actually cross post from LJ itself to here either, only from here to there, so I guess I'm being kinda forced to hang around more often here at DW anyway :)

Someone recently pointed out a theory which I really don't find very hard to believe -- one of the reasons why LJ originally got so popular with Russian users was exactly because the LJ servers were NOT located in Russia. So now that the site has slowly turned into a Russian site with both the ownership & servers in Russia, those original Russian users are leaving as well. Ha ha!

Hello Hello I am adding you. I am double-adding compatible people on DW/LJ - making connections via friends of friends, &c. I see mutual interests and concerns, so please check out my LJ &/or DW, and do with me what you will.

There is something in my journal for everyone, and you will only be disappointed every so often. Thanks!

I can't decide if I want to cross-post or not, either. I'm leaning on not, though.

I agree with you that the people who own this site are probably not evil, but you're right in that it is more commercialized. I love that this site isn't. It also seems more personal and also community-oriented...kinda like the old days of LJ.

I like it when people tried to look more pragmatically at the matter, rather than the overly emotionalized way.
One reality with it is: Because users have left in so many numbers over the years, it is a possible scenario of the site being shut down, and just by that, it's not bad to have a backup somewhere. If one wants to continue that kind of writing, well, then having another platform with which one would like to continue if the emergency became real is the duty then.
